#18 - WHY I STILL WRITE (REDUX)

Written in 2015. Still, the most straightforward answer I have.

Why I Still Write

I do not write because anyone is waiting for it.

I write because it helps me pay attention. Because it gives shape to thoughts that otherwise drift around unfinished. Because it slows things down just enough for me to notice what I actually think.

There have been times when writing felt pointless, when the audience was small or silent, when it seemed easier to stop than to keep going without an apparent reason.

But stopping never sat right.

Writing is not about reach or response. It is about clarity. About making sense of things while they are still forming, not after they have hardened into opinion.

I write to understand where I am.
I write to mark time.
I write to remember what mattered when it mattered.

Some of it is shared.
Some of it is not.

The act itself is the point.

As long as that remains true, I see no reason to stop.

And it still does.
